Common Questions

My streets aren't turning green when I run on them.

Make sure you've granted location permission in iOS Settings → Privacy → Location Services → Street Eater. "Always" is recommended so tracking continues when your phone is locked. You need to be within roughly 10 meters of a street's centerline for it to register as covered — GPS can drift a few meters indoors or in dense urban canyons, so try open spaces first.

Voice callouts aren't playing.

Check Settings → Voice Callouts is enabled inside the app, your phone's silent switch is OFF, and your media volume is up. Voice playback uses the "ambient" audio category which mixes with music but respects the silent switch.

The app crashes or the map is blank.

First, try fully quitting the app (swipe up from the bottom and swipe Street Eater away) and reopening. If the map is blank, try Settings → Refresh Map Data inside the app — that pulls fresh street data from OpenStreetMap. Still broken? Email me at the address above with your iPhone model and iOS version.

A critter caught me unfairly.

Try Settings → Critter Mode → Chill (slower spawn rate) or Off (no critters at all) if you'd rather focus on the running. EXTREME mode applies a -50 XP penalty when you're caught — you can turn that off any time.

My GPS shows the wrong location.

Indoors or in tunnels, GPS accuracy can be terrible. Step outside and wait ~15 seconds for a fresh fix. If you're consistently seeing wrong locations outdoors, restart the app — iOS sometimes hangs on a stale fix on first launch.

Where is my data stored? Can I export it?

All run data lives locally on your device. There's no cloud backup yet (planned for a future version). Deleting the app deletes everything permanently — there's no recovery. If you want to keep a backup, use the Share button on a run's detail screen to save the image to your Photos library.

Can I use Street Eater for biking?

Yes — tap the activity emoji on the pre-run screen to switch between running and biking. Bike-eaten streets render in cyan to distinguish them from run-eaten streets (green). Each activity tracks its own pace target separately.
